Some pages were blurry. Other pages had parts of the data on either the left side (first name) or the right side (#days ill) cut off. I transcribed all that was visible enough to read. Jefferson County was formed on February 1, 1811, from Dearborn and Clark counties. It was named for Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. It was one of Indiana's first counties. ---------------------Begin Actual Transcription---------------------------- ====================================================================================================================================================================================================================================== CENSUS YEAR: 1850 STATE: Indiana COUNTY: Jefferson DISTRICT: Not Stated ENUMERATOR: H. In this county and within a few rods of the Ohioriver is one of the finest marble quarry's in the West, opened a short time since , and worked with great success by A. Dean, an enterprising and worthy mechanic of the City of Madison. The marble is capable of the smoothest surface. From this quarry was taken the Block, furnished by this State to the Washington monument, & bears the inscription "Indiana Knows no North, no South, nothing but the Union." ====================================================================================================================================================================================================================================== CENSUS YEAR: 1850 STATE: Indiana COUNTY: Jefferson DISTRICT: Not Stated ENUMERATOR: H.
