DESCENDANT'S NOTE for the William Lehigh family (page 443a, lines 14-17)
=========================================================================================

In the 1850 Mason County (W)Va census, page 443a on lines 14-17 --
the handwriting of the Enumerator for the surname appears to be Luke or Leehi. 
This is the William G. (Guild) Lehigh family.

In the 1856 Iowa "state" census they are found in Marion County, Polk Twp as William Leehigh.

In the 1860 Iowa "federal" census they are found in Marion County, Knoxville Township 
as Wm Lehigh on hw-page 52, lines 26-33. 

In 1862 William G. (Guild) Lehigh died in the war and is buried around Knoxville, IA 

In the 1870 Iowa "federal" census Marion County, Knoxville -- 
William G. (Guild) Lehigh's widow, Julietta is found as Johetta Lehigh. 

In the 1880 Iowa "federal" census Marion County, Knoxville -- William G. (Guild) Lehigh's 
widow Julietta is finally found as the correct spelling of Julietta Lehigh.
 
William G. (Guild) Lehigh married Julietta S. Hayes (Hays, Hayse) on April 09, 1844 
in Mason County, WV. (NOTE: I have a copy of the marriage bond for them) 
thus they show up in the 1850 WV-Mason County census.
 
Another note: In the 1850 WV/Mason County census, Julietta S. Hayes (Hays,Hayse)'s mother, 
Elenor Hays, is listed just above William G. Lehigh, Julietta S. Lehigh, Francis Marion Lehigh, 
and Benjamin F. Lehigh. Elenor Hays is listed on line 8 of page 443a.  
 
Another note:  Julietta's mother, Eleanor Hayes (Hays, Hayse) and Julietta's brothers and 
sisters also moved to Marion County, IA.  

Eleanor Hayes (Hays, Hayse) is also buried in Marion County, IA.
 
I also have copies of William G. (Guild) Lehigh's military records.
 
Yes, the spelling of the last names can be challenging.  
The surname Lehigh I have found has been spelled:  Lehigh, Lehi, Leahy, Leehigh, Leehi
