Prince William County, VA 1870 census http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/va/princewilliam/1870/ ================== TRANSCRIBER Notes ================== Two men were the census takers for the 1870 Census. Jonas Greene had very nice handwriting. John H. Thomas had good handwriting, but the ink was thin in places and has faded away. This caused a problem at times when trying to decipher the name or number. 1. Page 363B - Line 28 is blank. Dwelling number was increased to 23. 2. Page 364A - Line 20 is blank. It is very difficult to read all the letters or numbers. By checking back to the 1860 Census, I was able to figure out some of the names by matching husband, wife, children, or other relative's first names or by partial spelling of last name. 18.
