Transcriber's notes for Paint Township - Somerset, PA 1870 census transcription http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/pa/somerset/1870/ Paint Township text notes Paint Township, Somerset County, Davidsville Post Office, PA was enumerated by H.J. Boyts. Page 419A, Family and Dwelling Numbers 18, Lines 20 through 25. In Line 20 the name listed is Beam, Clark; directly after the word Clark there is a squiggly line drawn downwards connecting to Line 21 where in the name block are the words "& Berkeypile". Line 21 is hard to read and possibly looks like it was scratched out with crossmarks, nothing else is entered in Line 21. Because of the possibly crossed-out word in Line 21 I am showing the last name Beam for Lines 22 through 25. Page 420B, Line 31 There appears to be a line drawn from Line 31 Family number column to Line 32 Family number column as though the enumerator may have caught his error intending Dwelling number 41 Family number 40 to actually start on Line 32. Page 422B Lines 38 and 39. The enumerator has male voter marked for both lines. I feel he intended to cross out line 39 but instead crossed out line 38 by accident. Page 423B Line 9 Dwelling 83, Line 10 Dwelling 84, Line 11 Dwelling 85, Line 12 Dwelling 87, Line 12 Dwelling 88, Line 14 Dwelling 89 and Line 15 Dwelling 90 are all unoccupied and in remarks reference to them as Ashtola Mill. Dwelling number 86 is not mentioned nor shown by the enumerator. Page 425B Line 5. The enumerator changed the sequence of the Dwelling numbers. From Page 425A the sequence was up to Dwelling 115 and would have carried forward into Page 425B Line 1. But instead of starting next family on Line 5 with Dwelling number 116 the enumerator backed up and started this family with Dwelling number 106. Page 427B Line 4. The first name is unreadable due to ink splotch and written over. It looks like first letter is an R and last two letters ul.
