Clarion, PA 1870 Federal Census http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/pa/clarion/1870/ ==================================================================================== DESCENDANT NOTE for Joseph Kerr furnished by Barbara J. Mogush ==================================================================================== In the 1870 Census for Clarion County, Limestone Township on hw-page #32, line 19, the census taker incorrectly recorded the head of household as Joseph Rever. The correct name is Joseph Kerr. Joseph Kerr was first married to Catherine Henry Sep. 22, 1850 in St. Nicholas Church, Crates, Limestone Twp. They had the following children: Charles Kerr, 1851; Marie Kerr, 1852; Henry Kerr, 1854; Anna Kerr, 1857; Isaac Kerr, 1859 and Joseph Kerr, 1861. Catherine Henry Kerr died Aug 2, 1863, age 31 years. Joseph Kerr's second wife was Eliza Jane Greenawalt Weaver, widow of Jacob Weaver. Joseph Kerr and Eliza Jane Weaver were married Oct. 3, 1864. Their only child was Clara Isabelle Kerr, born Sep. 25, 1865. Eliza Jane Greenawalt married Jacob Weaver, Aug. 19, 1855. They had four children: Phoebe Jane Weaver, Sep. 17, 1856; Leah Anna Weaver, Nov. 9,1857; Nancy Elizabeth Weaver [sometimes went by Agnes], Sep. 14, 1859. Their last child and only son, Jacob William Lehman Weaver was born, Dec 2, 1861, after his father left for the Civil War. Jacob Weaver died June 2, 1862 aboard the Steamboat Robert Fulton on its passage to New York of a leg wound received in the Battle of Fair Oaks, VA, on the 31st of May, 1862. Between their two marriages, Joseph and Eliza Jane Kerr had 11 children. She hauled stones to build their house in Kingsville and wove rugs which she sold. The hard work of caring for 11 children and building a house sent her to an early grave at the age of 30 years on June 24, 1867. That is why Joseph Kerr appears on the 1870 census with his own children and Weaver step-children. Barb ====================================================================================
