The county is divided into two "regiments", the Lower and Upper. The enumerator of the Lower Register spelled names as they sounded to him/them. So, some of them are really 'STRANGE' spellings. Where I could quess at what the names might be, I entered it in the 'remarks' section. At other times, I didn't have a clue, so just left them as I could make out the spelling. Many first names were abbreviated (Margaret was nearly always Margret or Magr't, Catherine never had an "e" at the end. Mary Ann and Lucy Ann were always Maryan and Lucyan, etc.) Even the surnames were spelled differently in the same family sometimes.
