Hotel" 182b Dwelling/family 126/128 occupies lines 25-42. "Poor House" is written in the column. lines 25-29 Thomas Wilkinson wife and 3 children line 30 has X mark. This appears to be where the unrelated individuals names begin with "Pauper" in their line. 183a line 32 132/134 William *Queensbury or possibly Christenberry (see next line). line 33 132/134 Mary Poteat [Marriage Bonds have a Polly Christenberry m. William Poteat in 1796] 183b line 23 birth place has ink smudge over state 187b line 42 199/200 John Thompson probably goes with Thompson family. on 188a 200/202 as husband of Nancy Thompson 188b line 8 Rebecka Gatewood ("t" is not crossed.) Susan Carter in family above was Susan Gatewood m. Iverson Carter. 208a After this page, the Enumerator does NOT consistently put NC after Caswell and neighboring counties. If Caswell is, "Caswell,*" it just means he did not indicate that it is, "Caswell NC." pg. 215a line 34 Thomas S. Yarbrough "married within the year" box checked. There is no female with same in this household. However, there is a Thomas S. Yarbrough in Marriage Bonds m. Elizabeth Terry Feb. 1850. There is no Elizabeth Terry in 1850 census but there is Elizabeth Yarbrough with a Thomas Yarbrough on pg. 192b line 25 & 26 -living with Terry family. There is no "married with year" mark for them. Don't know if this is same or not] line 39 William Washington married within the year. No bride in household. Marriage Bonds has William Washington m. Martha Spain. See pg. 230a line 39. 230 a line 39 Martha Spain has married with the year. No groom in this household. Marriage Bond has Martha Spain m. William Washington. See pg. 215a line 39. 236b line 33 Sydney Hensly - ink spill over age. To approximate, note: A Sydney Hensly is in Marriage Bonds and married in 1855, 238b line 5 From Lin - this is her family: "He's Empson Bird. I know the s is missing, but I'm 100% sure - trust me on this one! He's named for his Maryland-born grandfather Empson Bird of Orange Co NC." line 17 Albert* /Alberta* A. Massey age 3 Female. There is an erase attempt after "Albert" [note: MB has an Albert A. Massie m. to Emily Frederick. So sex could be incorrectly marked as, Female."] line 23 From Lin: First name is known to be Mitchell line 25 [?Gu for George?] J. Walker [see note from Lin after line 26] line 26 Wm. Gooch then is this ditto marks for Walker? [my question to Lin] From Lin: Yes, there definitely are ditto marks. HOWEVER, I know this Mitchell Walker (for that was his real forename - rendered here as "Mitchail"). His wife was Martha Davis, and the one-year-old who looks like Gu in this was George T. Walker. Now, since Martha was a Davis not a Gooch, this Wm. Gooch Walker cannot be her brother. And he was NOT A BROTHER of Mitchell, either, because I have seen the probate file of Mitchell's father, George, and there was NO SON WILLIAM, let alone a son William Gooch Walker. Mitchell Walker's parents were George Walker and Mary Walker, who were first cousins of each other and who have NO GOOCHES on their family trees, at least not nearby (I have them back to THEIR grandparents, John Walker and Nancy Ashford). My "gut" feeling is that this William Gooch "Walker" was really a William Gooch, whose relationship to the Walkers was "boarder". line 31 forename has ink spill/smear Walker 67 y.o. female Jefferson H. on line 32 is son of Fannie Walker. So that identifies the scribbled one on line 31 as his mother, Fannie Walker. She was Frances Graham, widow of Hugh Walker. Hugh, who died before this census, was a brother of George Walker above, and therefore an uncle of Mitchell Walker. 239a line 15 given name has smudge. A***ther Rasco [Note a possibility: There is an Arther & Mary Rasco in Marriage Bonds.] line 33 Elizabeth Norman [mark in R/W box changed to a "0." Does that mean she can read? or I wonder if the "0" was intended for the box of the 10 yr. old below, who has her box marked] 35 William [Howell,Herrell] surname? 239b line 13 [Urciah ?] Cook. [Note that on line 14 is Margaret Warren. In Marriage Bonds, a Margaret Cook m. Thos. Warrin 1820. This might help find identity of Cook on line 13. 240b line 34 [?Seira] G. Compton [age 38 or 18] There is a Sieria G. Compton who was a wit/bondsman in 1833 in Marriage Bonds. The first digit of age has been changed. I am guessing that 18 might be too young to be a carpenter?
