Further south on the east side of Rice County I found Mr. Theodore Steinburg building a stone house and had up a large stone corrall for the protection of his stock from Indians, but as it was extremely dangerous for him to stay there unprotected he spends most of his time at his father's in family no. 40 in Ellsworth County where I have him enumerated, therefore his name is not entered on this sheet as one of the inhabitants of Rice County. I traveled through this county of Rice with an escort of 6 soldiers from Fort Harker under the command of Gen. N. S. Miles. ======================================================================================================================================================= CENSUS YEAR: 1870 STATE: KS COUNTY: Rice MICROFILM #: M593-441 ENUMERATOR: Z.
