Champagne County, IL 1850 Federal Census Transcriber's notes: Items to note: From page 95B through 99A there were several confusing issues. 1. Beginning with page 95B and the first for the Town of Urbana, the enumerator used a family number for the first time. 2. Page 95B, Dwelling 103, Family 1 through Dwelling 107, Family 5 Page 96A, Dwelling 108, Family 13 through Dwelling 115, Family 20 Page 96B, Dwelling 116, Family 21 through Dwelling 124, Family 29 Page 97A, Dwelling 125, Family 29 through Dwelling 131, Family 35 Page 97B, Dwelling 107, Family 5 through Dwelling 131, Family 12 (with the very last entry being for Dwelling 108, Family 13) Page 98A (but with no # stamped at the top), Dwelling 107, no family # through Dwelling 111 Page 98B—none Page 99a, Dwelling 149 through Dwelling 154 3. On page 97A it notes the total population of Urbana at the bottom, appearing to indicate that this is the last page for Urbana. This page ends with Dwelling #131, Family 35, but the next page, 97B, notes at the top "Urbana Concluded" and the first Dwelling is 107, Family 5. 107 does have a line through it but Celinda Harvey no doubt does belong back with Dwelling 107, Family 5 (listed at the bottom of page 95B) and she should have appeared as the first entry on page 96A. The next entry on page 97B (after Celinda) is one for Dwelling 125, Family 6 (not 132, Family 36 as one would have suspected from the previous page). While the Dwelling # of 125 makes no sense, the Family #6 seems to indicate that this represents more Urbana occupants. At the bottom of page 97B, immediately after a listing for Dwelling 131, Family 12, there appears a listing for a Solomon Campbell, Dwelling 108, Family 13 and a penciled note in the margin that says "T. Campbell, 3 pages ante" apparently denoting that Solomon belonged back on page 98A with the Thomas Campbell family shown for Dwelling 108, Family 13. It also notes again the total population for Urbana and page 98A reflects that it is for Census District No. 21 (rather than Urbana). I listed these individuals on the pages where they appeared but with their correct Dwelling and Family # noted. This was so confusing it was hard to know what to do with it. I did check a part of this at the library and this does appear to be in the same order as the original census. If you want me to fax or mail a copy of these pages to you for your review, let me know as I realize this will be very difficult to understand without a copy in front of you.
