Remarks: This district has been settled some seven years, during which time no epidemic or malady has been known to rage to any great extent among its inhabitants - during the last few months the cholera visited one village in the District, but only lasted some 4 or 5 days, and only proved fatal in the case of six persons. The climate is mild, and the District healthy - The face of the Country is sufficiently uneven to drain itself and the soil is remarkably fertile and productive. The timber & prairie is so arranged as to insure the settlement and cultivation of almost every Section in the District - The timber is abundant and of a good quality, consisting of the different varieties of the Oak Ash, Hackberry, Sugar Maple, Linn, Locust Hickory, Black & White walnut &c. Stock water is found in abundance, Springs of water are frequently found but so impregnated with sulpher as to be impalatable But good lime stone water is found in great abundance by digging 15 to 25 feet - Lime & Sand Stone is found in abundance, of an excelent quality along the banks of the Streams, and also Stove coal is abundent in the same localities.
