These censuses were taken from 1850 to 1900, although not all have survived. By 1902, most states had implemented vital records laws and the mortality schedules were phased out. It is important to remember that the information is available only for the year immediately preceding the census. Those who died outside of this range were never enumerated. Even then, the information was under- reported. According to U.S. Public Health Service estimates, only about 60% of deaths were enumerated in the mortality schedules. ---------------------Begin Actual Transcription---------------------------- TRANSCRIBER REMARKS: The front side of the form for the 1880 Mortaliy Census contained columns for entering the census data (numbered 1-17). The back side of the form contained columns (not numbered) for statements from attending phyisicians for those who were enumerated. This transcription only shows the columns from the back side that were used, if any. ============================================================================================================================================================================================================================ CENSUS YEAR: 1880 Mortality STATE: FL OOUNTY: Holmes MICROFILM#: none ENUM/DISTR: 65 ENUMERATOR: W. Dr Farrier Ends Holmes County ENUMERATOR REMARKS: The statements made in filling Schedule 5, have been made to the best information to be obtained there is not a Physician residing in Holmes County those reported in column 17, as reported attending patients all reside out of the County, and few, if any of them keep a Register their report if called on in refference to most or all of the deaths reported would be from memory, which might not be as correct in most cases as the Statements made to family while attending the patient All of which I have tried to report as correctly as practicable.
